As a Registered Nurse Level IV, you will leverage your clinical expertise and leadership skills to develop and implement comprehensive care plans for patients. Additionally, you will serve as a mentor to fellow team members, providing guidance and support to ensure the highest standards of care on the unit.

Excellence in Complex Medical, Cardiac, and Stroke Care

2 South at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital is a high-acuity, 18-bed telemetry unit specializing in the care of complex medical patients with cardiac conditions and stroke-related diagnoses. Recognized for its dynamic environment and exceptional standards, 2 South offers a rewarding and intellectually stimulating setting for nurses and healthcare professionals seeking to expand their clinical expertise.

Our team delivers evidence-based, compassionate care to a diverse patient population with a wide range of co-existing conditions, including cardiac arrhythmias, acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, and stroke. As a designated stroke unit, we utilize rigorous monitoring protocols, including the NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), to ensure timely and precise care.

Clinical Highlights:

  • Advanced Cardiac Care: Management of complex cardiac patients requiring high-risk medications such as amiodarone, cardizem, tikosyn, sotalol, and milrinone.
  • Heart Failure Management: Focused, compassionate care for patients with chronic heart failure, supporting stabilization and transition to post-acute care.
  • Acute MI Care: Rapid intervention and stabilization for acute myocardial infarction (MI) patients, with transitions to cardiac rehabilitation when appropriate.
  • Stroke Monitoring and Management: Specialized stroke care including close neurological monitoring and NIHSS assessments.

This position is part of the Registered Nurse Level IV (Clinical Nurse IV) role and requires the following to be completed within 12 months of employment:

  • Completion of the Clinical Ladder binder

  • A minimum of 5 activities in each pillar: Leadership, Quality, Organizational Contribution

  • 15 Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

  • 20 Flex items

STATUS: Full Time

LOCATION: Newark Wayne Community Hospital (NWCH)

DEPARTMENT: Acute Care Telemetry Unit (2S)

SCHEDULE: Day/Evening/Night - Every other weekend / holiday

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.

  • Minimum of 6 months experience as a registered nurse.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assessment. Perform initial and ongoing assessment of the patient; demonstrate exceptional clinical judgment and advanced assessment skills; communicate and document assessment with interdisciplinary team; utilize all available resources in order to meet the needs of the patient and family
  • Planning & Implementation. Develop and document plan of care, treatment and services; collaborate interdisciplinary health team to deliver care; maintains an appropriate nurse-patient relationship and provides an exceptional experience for the patient and family
  • Evaluation & Education. Evaluate, communicate and document patient responses to care; revise plan of care based on ongoing evaluations; ensure the patient receives and understands education/training specific to their needs and abilities
  • Training. Provide training for new team members on the unit; assume role of teacher for nursing students and other students shadowing on the unit; act as a resource for other team members for both clinical and non-clinical matters

EDUCATION:

  • BS: Nursing (Required)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • RN - Registered Nurse - New York State Education Department (NYSED)

PAY RANGE: $38.66 - $51.91

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, clinical licensure date, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
