Job Title: Endoscopy Tech - Lead
Department: Peri-operative, GI
Location: Joseph C. Wilson Multicultural Medical Building
Hours Per Week: 40
Schedule: Monday-Friday day shift
SUMMARY:
As a Lead Endoscopy Technician, your strong communication and organization skills, along with your ability to put patients at ease greatly assists the physician when performing endoscopic procedures, leading to excellent patient care. Through collaboration and mentorship you will ensure positive patient outcomes focused on quality and safety.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists physicians with flexible sigmoidoscopies according to the current policies. Sets up appropriate equipment for procedures and ensures necessary supplies are available.
Explains procedures and expected sensations to patient and provides instructions to ensure patient cooperation and to minimize discomfort.
Collects, prepares and labels all specimens correctly during flexible sigmoidoscopy. Prepares pathology slips according to current protocols.
Maintains a clean and safe patient care environment, implements and follows infection control procedures according to hospital policy, and follows unit policy for cleaning, disinfection and storage of equipment.
Maintains endoscopic instruments and accessories in working order. Troubleshoots and recognizes malfunctions.
Maintains an adequate supply level in procedure rooms, utility rooms, and office areas. Ensures instrument trays and other supplies are sterilized and in stock for procedures.
Maintains knowledge of the appropriate use of medications for endoscopy patients.
Maintains competency and enhances professional growth and development through continuing education, conferences, and seminars; attends and updates mandatory training.
Plans and assists the Nurse Manager in implementing department programs and assists in re-designing these programs as necessary for maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
Participates in quality improvement activities; assists in maintaining compliance with JCAHO (DNV or TJC) accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards.
Interprets age specific developmental, physiologic and unique care needs by assessment, and by observation of care delivery. The age specific populations this employee may competently care for may include the following: adolescent (12-17), adult (18-74), and geriatric (75 and older).
Acts as a resources person to other staff members.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Endoscopy.
Certified Endoscopy Reprocessor (CER) from International Association of Health Care Central Service.
BLS within 6 months of hire.
Material Management (IAHCSMM) with in 12 months of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of infection control, high-level disinfection and sterile technique.
Basic computer skills.
Strong communication skills, interpersonal and customer service skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
PAY RANGE: $20.60 - $22.50
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, clinical licensure date, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
