Schedule: Day: 9am-530pm

SUMMARY:

Provides all clerical support for the Unit. Processes and communicates physician orders and other information utilizing the hospital computer system. Functions as an internal member of the patient care team and represents UMMC in enhancing patient care through effective communication, teamwork and a commitment to customer service.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Patient Flow & Unit Coordination: Maintains accurate census records, updates Care Connect, manages patient discharges, rounds on patients, and ensures safety measures and room readiness.

  • Administrative & Clerical Support: Answers phones, routes calls, greets visitors, scans documentation, maintains in-patient forms, and provides general support to nursing staff and physicians.

  • Inventory & Equipment Management: Assists in managing supply levels, equipment inventory, and creates work orders or reports for environmental, engineering, and safety needs.

  • Communication & Collaboration: Acts as a liaison with other departments, assists with inquiries from staff, patients, and visitors, and supports unit operations through effective coordination.

  • Compliance & Safety: Upholds hospital policies, participates in quality improvement initiatives, maintains mandatory competencies, and supports a safe and professional unit environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year of secretarial experience

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational and decision-making skills.

  • Must be able to read, write legibly and communicate effectively in English

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to deal with all levels within the organization and community under varied conditions

  • Knowledge of basic computer applications and medical terminology

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

PAY RANGE: $17.25 - $18.25

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, clinical licensure date, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
