SUMMARY: Position requires a sound understanding of the ophthalmic practice, contact lenses, patient care, knowledge of ophthalmologic instrumentation and testing equipment; including the proper care and usage. Ability to communicate with patients, co-workers and supervisor is critical. Optimize and oversee the contact lens department to ensure efficiency and compliance with company policies and operational guidelines.
Job Title: Contact Lens Coordinator
Department: Ophthalmology
Location: WNY - Reed Eye - Pittsford
Hours Per Week: 40 Hours
Schedule: Working schedule Monday thru Friday 8:30 - 5:00. No Saturdays
Key Responsibilities:
Technician Specific
- Promptly and professionally assist the doctor in patient care areas.
- Understands and communicates well to patients regarding their contact lens needs.
- Returns phone calls to patients.
- Maintains patient confidentially.
- Efficiently and accurately interviews patients and documents histories.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, ocular meds and contact lenses.
- Utilizes proper universal precaution procedures.
- When required, accurately performs IOL Master, I-trace, vision test, contact lens fit, muscle testing and pupil examinations.
Contact Lens Coordinator Specific:
- Oversees contact lens procedures and protocols.
- Participates in hiring and training of contact lens techs.
- Invoicing approval
- Completes monthly contact lens inventory.
- Provides ongoing training for contact lens techs.
- Educates doctors and technicians on new contact lens products.
- Communicates with contact lens venders.
- Sets up and manages contact lens accounts.
- Communicates with staff on updated contact lens information ex: pricing, new products, product rebates, etc.
- Educates the patients on contact lens, cleaning and storage process, wear time, etc.
- Trains patients on insertion and removal of contact lenses.
- Places contact lens orders.
- Handle contact lens tech issues and complaints related to contact lenses.
- Assist with contact lens studies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Desired Attributes:
Strong analytical, communication and computer skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
2-4 years ophthalmic and contact lens experience.
Required Licensure/Certification Skills:
Successful completion of JCAHPO ophthalmic assistant certification within one year on the job.

PAY RANGE: $19.00 - $28.00
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, clinical licensure date, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
