This position is under the direct supervision of the security officer for assigned shift of the security department and is responsible for the protection, safeguarding and security of assets, personnel, patients and all visitors. The Security Guard is responsible for policing hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. Assists staff with unruly visitors and patients, alleviates plant safety and environmental conditions.

SCHEDULE: 12 Hour, Evening
Required: High school diploma with 5 years prior police or security or relevant experience
Preferred: Associate's degree in criminal justice with 2 years of related experience
Periodically tours buildings and grounds, examining doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure and not tampered with. Check all hospital doors on an hourly basis, check parking lots at least three times a shift
Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes or detains them, or telephones police for assistance, according to circumstances
Sounds fire signal to alert fire department and hospital personnel in event of fire to extinguish fire
Patrols hospital grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles
Checks cars and verifies if vehicles are parked in restricted areas, such as fire zones, turnarounds, ambulance entrances or reserved parking spaces
Checks exterior lighting and access routes to emergency and fire entrances
Escorts personnel to and from parking lots or between buildings as requested
Answers visitor’s questions concerning locations of various offices, rooms, and other areas within the hospital
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
