The Laboratory Director will oversee all testing performed at DrugScan, a part of ACM Global Laboratories. The Laboratory Director is responsible for ensuring high-quality patient testing, developing and expanding the service offers of DrugScan to meet the needs of our patients/clients and is a critical member of our Senior Leadership Team. This position oversees and ensures laboratory compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies and will work collaboratively with ACM Global Laboratories to ensure a high quality, cost effective toxicology testing service. Direct reports include our Toxicologists, Research & Development and Pharmaceutical Lab and will partner closely with the Laboratory Operations leadership team.

DEPARTMENT: Toxicology Lab Services

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday


  • PhD in Chemical, Physical or Biological Science required.
  • NYS Certification of Qualification in Clinical Toxicology and Clinical Chemistry OR eligibility to obtain within 3 months of hire; eligibility requirements as follows:
    • Board Certification required in one of the following areas:
      • ABB – American Board of Bioanalysis
      • ABCC – American Board of Clinical Chemistry
      • ABFT – American Board of Forensic Toxicology (limited to individuals with a doctoral degree)*
      • ABHI – American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics
      • ABMGG – American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (formerly known as American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG))
      • ABMLI – American Board of Medical Laboratory Immunology
      • ABMM – American Board of Medical Microbiology
      • NRCC – National Registry of Certified Chemists (limited to individuals with a doctoral degree)*
    • 4 years of experience in a clinical laboratory required; 2 years must be within a laboratory specialty.
    • 2 years of laboratory supervisor required.


  • Leadership. Provides oversight and leadership while ensuring high-quality patient testing. For director functions or responsibilities that are delegated, the delegation is in writing (by name or job title) and the director ensures that the functions or responsibilities are properly performed by a qualified individual. The director must provide evidence of ongoing monitors for the competent management of delegated responsibilities.
  • Quality. Ensures Laboratory compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies, including but not limited to: College of American Pathologists (CAP), SAMSHA, CLIA, and specific state requirements of CA, FL, MD, ME, NJ, NY, OK, PA, RI, and VT. Ensures an effective quality management program for the laboratory. Ensures the implementation of a safe laboratory environment in compliance with good practice and applicable regulations. Ensures that proficiency testing, alternative assessment, and QC procedures are sufficient for the extent of testing performed in the laboratory. Interacts and maintains good relationships with applicable regulatory agencies as well as the professional community. Ensures that policies and procedures are established for monitoring staff to assess competency, and whenever necessary, provide remedial training or continuing education to improve skills.Responsible for competency assessments of assistant directors and direct-report supervisors annually. Ensures an approved procedure manual is available to all personnel. Implements effective plan(s) of correction to laboratory operational issues or deficiencies identified during on-site laboratory inspections.
  • Partnership. Collaborates with business and operational leaders to ensure the proper test offerings and to develop/introduce new technologies and develop new and novel assays. Ensures communication of laboratory data and appropriate result reporting.
  • Development & Validation. Ensures that the test menu is current. Ensures that the performance specifications for new tests, instruments, and methods introduced to the laboratory have been properly validated or verified prior to being used for patient testing. Works closely with and oversees the development of new testing methods for the laboratory and ensures that new testing methods/analytes are properly prioritized and works with finance and operations to assist in developing the ROI for new test offerings.
