SUMMARY


Plans, organizes, coordinates and evaluates the orientation and continuing education programs for all assigned team members.  This position also provides several critical nursing managerial and clinical functions as well as project work as needed.

STATUS: Full Time

LOCATION: Newark Wayne Community Hospital

DEPARTMENT: Wound Care

SCHEDULE: Day/Evening/Night, Every other weekend/every other holiday rotation.

ATTRIBUTES
•    Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
•    For RGH - Minimum 2 to 5 years of acute care experience as a licensed RN.
•    For Med/Surg at NWCH – Minimum 2 years of clinical experience as a licensed RN.
•    For Inpatient Psychiatry – Minimum 4 years of clinical experience as a licensed RN.
•    Strong customer service, communication, and computer skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Completes a total of 22 Continuing Education Credits in nursing clinical education related to the individual’s current nursing practice.     
•Performs specialized care for a specific patient population demonstrating advanced technical/clinical skills in caring for a specific patient population. 
•Develops an individualized plan considering patient characteristics and the situation (age- and culturally-appropriate care, environmentally sensitive).
•Collaborates with health team members to validate comprehensiveness of patient’s interdisciplinary plan of care.     
•Considers associated risks, benefits, costs, current scientific evidence, and clinical expertise when formulating expected outcomes; modifies expected outcomes with changes in the status of the patient or the situation.     
•Synthesizes available data, information, and knowledge relevant to the situation to identify patterns and variances.
•Develops the plan of care in conjunction with patient, family, and others, utilizing community resources and systems as appropriate.     
•Incorporates an implementation timeline within the care plan.
•Uses health promotion and health teaching methods appropriate to the situation and the patient’s developmental level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, language preference, and culture.     
•Evaluates the effectiveness of the planned strategies in relation to patient responses and the attainment of the expected outcomes.  Makes revisions to the diagnoses, plan, and the implementation as needed.
•Provides evaluation of nursing actions based on descriptive and theoretical literature.     
•Teaches basic physical assessment skills appropriate for the patient’s chronological and developmental age.     
•Teaches others to recognize and assess the individual cultural needs of the patient/family/significant other.
•Guides other nurses in planning patient care and developing a comprehensive multidisciplinary plan of care for patients within area of specialization.     
•Guides nursing staff in adhering to and interpreting infection control and other safety standards.     
•Assists staff with leadership decisions and conflict resolution.
•Demonstrates leadership behaviors and teamwork through role modeling.  
•Guides staff to communicate with patients and peers to assure customer satisfaction.     
•Leads a group or assists in guiding others in the problem-solving process.
•Actively participates in unit level, Department of Nursing, Patient Care Services, or hospital-wide committee/task force/project team.     
•Assesses the learning needs of the unit then develops and implements a teaching plan.
•Acts as a resource person for planning and implementing teaching programs both individually and through collaboration with other nurses.     
•Assists in the evaluation of outcomes of teaching strategies and revises as necessary.      
•Utilizes quality improvement findings to enhance practice. 
•Directs staff in obtaining and analyzing data leading to effective clinical decisions.       
•Demonstrates the ability to communicate and apply QI findings to a problem or situation.     
•Analyze and synthesize evidence used in clinical study with assistance from clinical mentor, as necessary.
•Integrates current trends and research affecting patient outcomes.     
•Utilizes multiple sources related to evidence-based practice on a topic of interest.     
•Performs other duties as directed.
