Trauma Surgeon/System Medical Director of Trauma Programs
Rochester Regional health is seeking a dynamic surgical leader to operationalize a coordinated system wide trauma program and lead the Rochester General Hospital Acute Care Surgery Service. This is a leadership position is responsible for converting our current Trauma program at Rochester General Hospital, , the RRH quaternary flagship hospital into an American College of Surgeons (ACS) - verified Level II Trauma Center, with potential future system oversight of a level 3 ACS accredited trauma center and further evolution of our 8 hospital system. This position reports to the Chair of Surgery at Rochester General Hospital.
The role will lead and expand as needed the acute care surgery service at Rochester General Hospital. This will include staffing and quality for a very busy emergency general surgery service.
The ideal candidate will be dedicated to the development and maintenance of an ACS Level 2 and level 3 trauma programs within RRH, will be ABS board certified in surgery, have completed a fellowship in trauma critical care surgery, and have experience as a leader in an existing trauma program. The successful candidate will have strong clinical credentials, a collaborative approach to patient care, and a track record of exemplary teaching and leadership skills.

The Opportunity:
- Serves as the System Medical Director of the Trauma Program which provides, or coordinates, all clinical, administrative, and consulting services for this surgical program.
- Candidates must have leadership, clinical, and administrative experience, with a focus on trauma and critical care to ensure quality treatment to all patients of the program.
- 5 - 7 years of trauma, critical care surgery, and leadership experience is required.
- Position will provide general oversight and medical quality review of the Trauma Programs throughout the system inclusive of Surgical Critical Care Trauma Services, and Emergency General Surgery Trauma Services.
- Creates, maintains, and participates in the trauma & back up, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery call schedules.
- Supervision of Trauma/Surgical Critical Care staff credentials, and maintenance of Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE), and continuing medical education requirements for State designation and national verification as a trauma center.
- Participates in trauma education and support of the nursing, allied health, and the general population as instructed by hospital administration.
- Works in conjunction with the Trauma Program Manager to ensure compliance with quality programs of the State of NY and the ACS Committee on Trauma.
- Guides the trauma program’s participation in the NYS and ACS Trauma Quality Improvement Programs to develop best practices for trauma care by benchmarking outcomes data from the program against State and National benchmarks.
- Collaborates with the Chairs of Surgery, and System Chair of Emergency Services to build exemplary workflows and quality processes in the trauma and non-trauma emergency general surgery patients.
