The Acute General Medicine unit (4800) at Rochester General Hospital cares for complex medicinal and telemetry patients and the designated COVID of the hospital. It is a 37-bed unit that cares for patients with complex, acute medical conditions. Diagnoses on this unit are primarily medical, but the unit cares for a variety of medical conditions, such as complex behavioral patients who are not medically cleared to go to the inpatient psychiatric unit with multiple underlying complex medical conditions. The unit cares for the complex medical conditions of patients residing in group homes, such as Down’s syndrome and traumatic brain injury. Complex patients with drug and alcohol withdrawal are cared for on this unit and scored according to the CIWA protocol until stable and are discharged to drug rehabilitation facilities. Other complex medical patients, such as those with Peritoneal dialysis and those awaiting hospice on Palliative care, are admitted to this unit. The unit cares for complex respiratory patients with chronic trachs and those on CPAP/BiPAP, and it is equipped to provide high-flow oxygen when necessary. Complex wound care patients and those with wound vacs have enhanced the team's wound care and pressure ulcer prevention abilities.
