SUMMARY

Facilitates the operative or invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies and equipment. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team.

We are seeking dedicated healthcare professionals to join our team at Gouverneur Hospital. Gouverneur Hospital is certified for 25 beds and services include inpatient detox, substance use disorder rehabilitation, emergency care, imaging and EKG’s, physical therapy, and respiratory therapy.

LOCATION: Gouverneur Hospital

DEPARTMENT: Surgical Services

SCHEDULE: Variable Shifts

ATTRIBUTES

  • High School graduate. Graduate from a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited surgical technology program credential from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or LPN degree instead of the surgical tech certification

  • Required: One year of perioperative services experience

  • Required: Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

  • BLS

  • Certified Surgical Technology certification; or

  • Completed a military surgical technology program; or

  • Provides evidence of employment as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring within the four years immediately prior to 1/1/15; or

  • Is in the service of the federal government, to the extent the person is performing duties related to that service

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fair share of operating room on call

  • Promote the mission, vision and values of CPH

  • Function as a scrub person during operative and invasive procedures by

  • Assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure

  • Preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure

  • Performing ACCOUNTING procedures in concert with the RN circulator

  • Assisting with placement of sterile drapes

  • Providing instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure

  • Maintaining an organized sterile field

  • Ensuring sterility of the field and taking corrective actions as needed

  • Preparing sterile dressings

  • Clean and prepare surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination area

  • Assist with post procedure cleaning of the operative or invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients

  • Participate in ongoing educational and competency verification activities applicable to scrub person activities

  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

PAY RANGE: $22.20 - $31.73

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
