SUMMARY:
As a member of the professional medical team, accurately prepares tissue samples for pathologist diagnosis by approved department procedures. They are expected to utilize complex problem solving skills in resolving tissue processing issues and instrument problems. This position requires exercise of independent judgment, theoretical knowledge and responsibility. They are to follow all regulatory lab requirements. In addition, they will develop the skills necessary to improve the long-term goals of the department including, but not limited to, development and implementation of policies and procedures, and act as the technology consultant and/or key operator of specialized instrumentation. They will also need to participate in rotations that involve grossing of biopsies specimens in the trim room.

SCHEDULE: As Scheduled*
M-F Days 8 hour shift schedule hours range from a start time of 6am till as late as 5pm
ATTRIBUTES:
- Associate’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology or related field required or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- At least (2) two years of relevant Medical Technology Laboratory experience required.
- New York State Department of Education License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Certified Histological Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technician required.
- Certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) preferred, but not required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coding. Demonstrate working knowledge of Anatomic Pathology Information System, including ability to accurately assess specimens; prepare surgical and autopsy specimens for histologic examination; process tissue and cut consistently high-quality tissue sections; work with glass slides and staining
- Equipment Management. Help maintain histology laboratory equipment (processors, stainers, etc.)
- Leadership & Collaboration. Assist in training new histology personnel and medical technology students; work cooperatively with all department personnel to facilitate prompt and accurate specimen diagnoses
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
