This position is under the direct supervision of the Director of Safety/Security for assigned shift of the security department. Its responsibility is for the protection, safeguarding, and security of assets, personnel, patients, and all visitors.
The Security Officer is responsible for policing hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. Assists staff with unruly visitors and patients, alleviates facility safety and environmental concerns.

ATTRIBUTES
High School diploma with 5 years prior police, corrections, security, or relevant experience preferred.
Associate Degree in Criminal Justice with 2 years prior experience preferred.
NYS Security Guard License preferred – to be attained within six months of hire.
Must possess a valid New York State driver’s license with a clean DMV record.
2 years prior experience preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Essential Job Functions
Ability to speak, read, and write English and follow written and oral instructions.
Working knowledge of security operations, safety practices in a business environment, and enforcement procedures.
Conflict resolution ability in a crisis situation.
Crisis management ability.
Risk of exposure to blood/body fluids in the day-to-day job duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Periodically tours buildings and grounds, examining doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure and not tampered with. Checks all hospital doors on an hourly basis, and periodically checks parking lots at least three times per shift.
Travel by conventional means to other locations as required.
Investigates and questions unauthorized persons, re-routes them to the correct destination, and/or telephones police for assistance according to circumstances.
Patrols hospital grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles.
Checks cars and verifies if vehicles are parked in restricted areas, such as fire zones, turnarounds, ambulance entrances, or reserved/handicapped parking spaces.
Checks exterior lighting and access routes to emergency and fire entrances.
Escorts personnel to and from parking lots or between buildings as requested.
Answers visitors’ questions concerning locations of various offices, rooms, and other areas within the hospital.
Write written reports of exceptional incidents for review by supervisory personnel
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
PAY RANGE: $16.00 - $22.33
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
