Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm



SUMMARY:

The Genetic Counselor role at Rochester Regional Health plays a crucial role in assessing and managing the risk of genetically inherited conditions. They work with patients and families to provide genetic testing, interpret medical histories and offer counseling.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Obtain informed consent from patients and discuss their options.
  • Analyzes and interprets test results and genetic information from family histories, and identifies patients or families at risk for specific diseases, disorders, or syndromes.
  • Conducts risk assessments and recommends medical or genetic testing based on analysis.
  • Coordinates treatment plans by requesting laboratory services, reviewing genetics or counseling literature, and considering histories or diagnostic data.
  • Explains diagnostic procedures, such as ultrasound and amniocentesis.
  • Document case details in patient files while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Provide educational material and recommendations to patients.
  • Oversee record maintenance.
  • Write letters of medical necessity and complete other paperwork/documentation/calls for health insurance coverage of genetic testing.
  • Manages genetic test kit inventory

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree from a board-accredited program in Genetics or Genetic Counseling.
  • Certified as a Genetics Counselor by the American Board of Medical Genetics or the American Board of Genetic Counseling or certification obtained within one year of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2.5 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general genetic principles, including inheritance patterns.
  • In-depth understanding of cancer and prenatal genetics, including testing options.
  • Ability to conduct evidence-based genetic counseling sessions.
  • Proficient documentation skills.
  • Experience coordinating and monitoring genetic testing.
  • Familiarity with innovative approaches to providing genetic counseling services.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, specifically strong oral and written communication skills, are essential.
  • Knowledge of eRecord and Microsoft Office programs are desired.
  • Candidate must demonstrate accuracy in all correspondence, including eRecord.
  • Candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate efficiency in prioritizing assignments, and be able to multi-task.
  • Candidate should be skilled in proactively resolving problems and recommending and implementing continuous quality improvement.
  • Candidate must be flexible with work schedule.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

PAY RANGE: $62,000.00 - $97,333.00

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
