New Graduate Registered Nurse Perioperative Explore Program

Job Title: Registered Nurse

Location: Rochester General Hospital

  • Perioperative Services - Pre-Operative Unit (Pre-Op)

  • Operating Room (OR)

  • Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

Hours Per Week: 36 to 40 Hours

Schedule: Primarily Day/Evening, Monday-Friday; Nights, Weekends & Holidays, & on-call responsibilities per unit requirements. All interested candidates must live within a 30-minute drive to Rochester General Hospital to fulfill on-call duties.

Perioperative nurses have the opportunity to care for patients from the following surgical specialties; Bariatric, Cardiothoracic, Colorectal, ENT, General Surgery, Gynecology, Neurology, OMFS, Orthopedic, Plastics, Urology, and Vascular.

  • Pre-Operative Unit (Pre-Op) is the entry point for many patients having surgical procedures. This unit provides pre-arrival education and readiness.

  • The Operating Room (OR) at Rochester General Hospital offers elective and emergency surgeries for adult and pediatric patients performed daily in our 23 operating rooms.

  • The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is a 28-bed critical care unit providing care for patients who are recovering from surgery.

How the Perioperative Explore Program works:

  • Complete learning experiences in our pre-operative, operative, and recovery units

  • This immersive program provides hands-on training alongside an experienced nurse preceptor.

  • Participate in weekly discussions, simulations, or educational meetings

  • At completion of the program, the licensed RN will be hired full-time into an operating room position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Patient Care & Service: Promote and restore patients' health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; performing various treatment procedures; providing physical, educational and emotional support to patients, friends and families; supervising assigned team members

  • Planning & Communication: Develop and document individualized care plans customized for each patient’s unique needs, with support from the interdisciplinary health team as needed; maintain effective communication to convey patient health status, treatment plans and progress

  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) Management: Demonstrate proficient use of an EHR – including accurate patient and provider documentation and communication

  • Compliance: Adhere to required department and system protocols, regulations (local, state, federal) and education requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Nursing

  • Registered Nurse license in New York State

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

PAY RANGE: $37.18 - $49.92

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, clinical licensure date, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
