Job Title: Emergency Department Assistant (CSEA)

Department: ED

Location: Massena Hospital

Hours Per Week: variable/per diem

Schedule: on an as needed basis 7a-7p and 7p-7a

SUMMARY:

Provides basic age appropriate care to patients under the direct supervision of an RN. Performs various duties necessary to provide complete care, comfort care, and safety for assigned patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.

  • Demonstrates competence in required technical skills.

  • Prioritizes and organizes workload to support patient flow in the Emergency Department.

  • Performs and documents routine tasks, including vital signs, EKGs, specimen collection/transport, and patient transport.

  • Keeps patient care areas clean, sanitized, and properly stocked.

  • Responds promptly to call lights and communicates patient needs to appropriate staff.

  • Follows safety protocols, including proper use of side rails, bed positioning, call bells, and observation of at‑risk patients.

  • Assists with CPR, patient admissions, discharges, transfers, and care of personal belongings.

  • Completes errands and supports supply management as needed.

  • Cooperates with team members and contributes to a positive, respectful environment.

  • Assists in orienting new employees and supports departmental performance improvement efforts.

  • Accepts reassignment to other units as needed and performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AHA BLS

  • High School Diploma or GED

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CNA or HHA experience

  • Medical terminology preferred

  • EKG/Phlebotomy experience preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Sedentary - Sedentary roles are primarily office-based and require prolonged sitting (67–100% of the workday) with minimal physical effort and lifting limited to under 10 lbs. Fine motor skills are necessary for computer work, writing, and telephone use, supported by clear visual and auditory ability. Cognitive and emotional demands are high due to extended concentration, frequent interruptions, independent decision-making, and information processing. Although physical exposure is low, administrative areas within healthcare environments may occasionally involve contact with infectious agents. Some roles may require flexible hours, TB screening, or a valid driver’s license.

PAY RANGE: $21.52 - $30.72

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, clinical licensure date, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
