Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse - Acute General Medicine
Department: Acute General Medicine (4800)
Location: Rochester General Hospital
Hours Per Week: Full-Time (36 hours per week)
Schedule: Day/Evening/Night, Every Other Weekend, Every Other Holiday
SUMMARY: The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for providing direct patient care, usually under the direction of a Registered Nurse, in accordance with established plans. The Licensed Practical Nurse is a key member of the care delivery team. The Licensed Practical Nurse communicates the needs of the patient and the team; collaborates with the multidisciplinary team, takes direction from the RN and delegates appropriately to the other members of the team.
The Acute General Medicine Unit (4800) is a 39-bed medical unit with a large number of private patient rooms that cares for patients with a wide range of complex acute and chronic medical conditions. This fast-paced unit provides Licensed Practical Nurses with exceptional opportunities to develop advanced clinical skills while caring for patients with respiratory and renal disease, cardiac conditions requiring telemetry, and complex medical needs involving blood transfusions, dialysis, multiple drips, drains, catheters, tracheostomies, chest tubes, and feeding tubes. With exposure to diverse patient populations and high-acuity care, 4800 is an ideal unit for nurses looking to strengthen their clinical expertise in a collaborative and supportive environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Patient Care & Service - Promote and restore patients' health by completing the nursing process; collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; perform various treatment procedures; provide physical, educational and emotional support to patients, friends and families; supervise assigned team members.
· Medication Administration & Reporting - Administer medication and give/receive relevant reports, both written and verbal from/to appropriate staff as per departmental protocols.
· Documentation - Ensure concise, pertinent and complete documentation using computerized medical record process.
· Preparation - Ensure clinical areas are properly supplied and exam rooms are available and stocked.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Graduate from an accredited School of Practical Nursing or equivalent required.
· Current licensure in State of New York as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills highly desired.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.

- BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (AHA)
- LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - NYS Office of Professions
PAY RANGE: $27.54 - $33.66
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, clinical licensure date, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
