Job Title: Radiation Therapy Tech-Senior
Department: Radiation Technology
Location: Lipson Cancer Institute, 1425 Portland Avenue, Rochester, NY 14621
Hours Per Week: 40
Schedule: 8-hour shifts, 7:30-4 or 8-4:30, after 6 mos of employment, added to on-call weekend only rotation; about once every 7-8 weeks

SUMMARY:

To coordinate transition of treatment planning information between clinical area and physics. Working closely with physicians and dosimetry staff to initiate start of new treatment plans. Assists dosimetrists with treatment planning. Assures that daily quality checks are completed on all therapy equipment as directed by physics staff. Assures that all quality checks are completed on treatment chart prior to initiation of treatment. Mentors and gives technical direction to the radiation therapist staff and students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates flow of Dosimetry work from start (simulation) to plan completion.

  • Reviews daily simulation schedule and transition information to physics.

  • Complete point calculations for emergent treatments and those directed from dosimetry staff.

  • Works with dosimetry staff daily to assure timely arrival of all upcoming boost plans to the treatment machine.

  • Assist dosimetrist in obtaining prescriptions from physicians for treatment plans.

  • Reviews charts to check with radiation prescriptions are being carried out properly, documentation correct, and patient consents are documented.

  • Mentors and gives technical direction to the radiation therapist team and the radiation therapist students.

  • Assures that all policies and procedures are being followed by the radiation therapist team.

  • Facilitates communication between physician and therapist team as needed.

  • Provides therapy support to treatment machines as needed by fulfilling day to day delivery of treatment plan to patients as stated in prescription.

  • Works with Radiation Therapist Lead in facilitating weekly team meetings to communicate information to the radiation therapist team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of 2 yr. Radiation Therapist Program.

  • Minimum of five years of experience as a radiation therapist

  • NYS Licensure as Radiation Therapist

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ARRT registered

EDUCATION:

  • AS: Radiologic Technology (Required)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.

PAY RANGE: $42.00 - $56.70

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, clinical licensure date, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
