Job Title: Lab Registration and Billing Specialist
Department: Pathology Administration Support

Hours Per Week: 40
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8-hour shifts, 8:30a - 5:00p
SUMMARY
The Lab Registration and Billing Specialist supports the RGH Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine team by ensuring accurate discharge of all medical reports using multiple distribution methods to achieve this goal. Includes use of transcribing and word processing equipment to process medical reports, and ensure all reports are sent to the provider electronically or by US Mail services. In addition, works closely with the Laboratory Charge Capture and Compliance team to ensure all orders result in accurate and timely billing for any services rendered in compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with healthcare professionals as applicable to discuss findings and offer advice and education as to how to improve denial rates.
- Works with Central Business Office (CBO) and Health Information Management (HIM) to identify billing adjustments and denial issues.
- Interacts with laboratory departments to discuss billing compliance issues and uses the information for recommending change of existing procedures or processes as directed by the manager.
- Keep current with Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) -
national and local coverage policies and other CMS regulations. - Creates IT Service tickets to correct system errors found by observing trends on various billing work queues
- Understands all aspects of SoftLab Lab Information System pertaining to Accounts Receivable. Includes running billing files, setting up new tests and insurances.
- Works closely with Laboratory Information System team on all system upgrades. Implements, tests and validates billing flow for each test.
- Proficient with database and required hot fixes of database files and validations. Responsible for ensuring billing files work correctly.
- Maintain Laboratory Chargemaster, ensuring CareConnect billing requirements are met for each test that is added to the system.
- Typing of all clinical histories into the Pathology information system
- Typing of Autopsy provisional and final reports into the Pathology information system
- Handling of all communication between Pathologists, providers and any outside vendor
- Manages faxes and other documentation from providers for Pathology cases
- Paperwork and slide storage retrieval/return including conferences and cases sent out to references labs. This also includes specimens sent out for additional testing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's degree preferred, but not required
- Previous billing and third-party payor experience preferred
- 2 years related work experience in billing and/or patient access, working with CPT codes preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
PAY RANGE: $18.75 - $23.00
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, clinical licensure date, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
