Job Title: Lab Courier
Department: Logistics
Location: Rochester Regional - Elmgrove & Riedman Campus
Hours Per Week: 20
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8-hour shifts, 6:00a - 2:30p
SUMMARY
The Lab Courier executes courier route assignments maintaining specimen integrity in conjunction with NYS Health Department Regulations. Couriers must perform duties in a professional and courteous manner, promoting superior customer service and relations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Execute courier route assignments while driving a company vehicle maintaining specimen integrity in conjunction with NYS Health Department Regulations. Expedite pick-up and delivery of priority specimens.
- Communicate regularly while executing route with Logistics Dispatch via Bluetooth mobile phone in vehicle.
- Conduct the operation of company vehicle complying with all federal, state and highway regulations.
- Ability to perform independently, responsible for using sound judgment and problem-solving skills in relation to client issues.
- Understand and follow company policies and procedures and respect patient confidentiality.
- Document pick-up and delivery details carefully on route sheet and notify the Logistics Coordinator of any equipment maintenance requirements.
- Perform departmental procedures ensuring compliance with corporate, state, federal, OSHA and customer specification.
- Ability to access, navigate and send/forward correspondence through computer related programs such as the Internet and E-Mail as well as maintain online Mandatory Education Requirements on a regular basis.
- Offer assistance for the training of new hire
- Assist with route development and look for opportunities for efficiencies.
- Opportunity to back up Coverage Courier as needed
- Additional duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid New York State Driver’s License required
- Previous customer service-related work experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Five (5) years of driving experience
- Friendly, kind and customer service oriented
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and make decisions
- Rochester area geographical knowledge preferred
- Previous courier experience or systems driving experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Drive - These positions involve frequent driving across varied routes, with regular loading and unloading of materials and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. or more. Employees must safely enter and exit vehicles, push or pull carts, and navigate ramps, stairs, and uneven surfaces. Strong visual and auditory acuity are essential for safe vehicle operation and task performance. Emotional and cognitive requirements include sustained attention, managing time-sensitive deliveries, and responding to schedule changes. Environmental exposures include inclement weather, roadway hazards, and loading dock conditions.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- NYS DL - valid New York State Driver's License - New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NYSDMV)
PAY RANGE: $17.25 - $19.89
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, clinical licensure date, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
